Truck Driving (CDL) Instructor - LTE
Position will provide instruction & training to students and participants engaged in the BTC Truck Driving program. This individual will provide direction related to over the road, practice range, and classroom experiences with the Truck Driving Students along with corporate driver students. The instructor must demonstrate a proficiency in skills as they relate to the operations of Class A (CDL-A) commercial vehicles and straight truck Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) Class B.
Position is limited term employment (LTE) through June 30, 2023. Continuation of assignment will be based on budgetary process for upcoming year.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction for assigned training, including one on one, as well as group coaching of students in classroom and outdoor lab environment.
- Maintain a high degree of attention safety to prevent damage to equipment, injury to students, staff and public.
- Facilitate a program of student evaluations to determine effectiveness of instruction and student achievement.
- Create a training environment that is respectful of diversity and demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism.
- Maintain accurate student records and reports as requested by administrative offices, driving logs and road evaluations in compliance with FMCSA Entry Level Driver Training and Department of Transportation Standards.
- Remain current of developments in the truck driving and training so that instruction provides for individual learning styles, uses the latest supportive technology, and can utilize alternative delivery methods.
- Be familiar with the curriculum content of assigned courses and use continuous quality improvement techniques to update content so that it fosters current evidence-based program assessment and improvement.
- Prepare and update course syllabi for each course taught and work cooperatively with members of other departments in coordinating courses.
- Participate in staff development activities and serve on college improvement teams and college wide committees as appropriate.
- Assist in the enforcement of college regulations and report student conduct violations to administration.
- Identify students needing assistances and refer students with problems to Student Services. Cooperate with Student Services and Academic Support Division staff members to help students adjust to the learning environment.
- Assist in student and staff recruitment and job placement activities for graduates.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of CDL Driving Practices, and ability to remain current on industry trends.
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to maintain an excellent working relationship with internal and external customers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as good listening skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited daily directions.
- Ability to work with diverse student, staff, and communication populations.
- Ability to work portions of the day outdoors in varying weather conditions including walking and standing.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED/HSED, or equivalent
- Three (3) years (6,000 hours) of occupational experience in Truck Driving
- Valid CDL Class A Commercial Driver’s License
- Training and teaching experience in the trucking industry preferred
- Employment offers are contingent upon negative DOT drug test and driving approval through insurance provider.
