Director of Marketing & Communications
Job Description
Responsible for the development, project management and oversight, as well as design and implementation of customer and employee communications programs, marketing and promotional programs, and public relations liaisons.
Note: All CTtransit employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and demonstrate at appropriate intervals, that they have received all subsequent doses (“boosters”) of the COVID-19 vaccine as recommended by the CDC’s Advisory Council on Immunization Practices as those recommendations may be updated.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field.

Three (3) years professional experience in the fields of marketing, corporate communications, advertising or graphics. An appropriate Master’s Degree or additional professional experience may be substituted for a portion of the experience or educational requirement.

High level of proficiency in industry-standard software programs for the creation of production ready layouts, image manipulation, type management, and illustration – demonstrated through a portfolio of work representing professional experience with these tools.

Experience in managing, updating and creating content for websites

Excellent oral and written communications skills demonstrated through samples of written reports, press releases, presentations or similar examples of professional experience.

Knowledge of media outlets and buying, marketing concepts, print advertising, internet and social media trends and graphic design for all mediums.

Prior experience in project management and personnel administration.

Proficient in software programs (database, data analysis, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software packages), internet applications and utilization of all relevant office equipment. The ability to learn quickly internal software programs. Must be able to handle confidential information.

The ability to prioritize projects and have excellent interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy. Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative environment.

Valid drivers’ license and the ability to be insured by our insurance company throughout employment. Individuals may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
Examples of Duties:
-
Functions as senior creative director for advertising, communications, and marketing materials developed for CTTRANSIT and in coordination with ConnDOT (and subcontractors) marketing projects. Provides design guidance, establishes design standards, and develops and reviews creative content for all department projects.

Supervises the members of the marketing team to ensure established deadlines and project goals are met, and that personnel and budget resources are assigned to achieve these goals.

Develops marketing plan, project plans and timelines each year to establish and achieve marketing and communications goals within budget allocated.

Designs, develops and prepares production-ready files for advertisements, brochures, cards, posters, and other printed materials for internal and external publication.

Creates and posts customer facing messages related to detours, cut trips, and other service impacts to company website, and social media accounts. This work may occur beyond the traditional working days/hours.

Oversees development of content for a variety of online outlets, including but not limited to the company web site, social media, and communications list serves. Works to promote and incorporate third-party online tools in the communications strategy, such as Trip Planners or secure online buying functions.

Assists in the preparation of press releases, directly provides comments to news outlet inquiries, and assists Executive staff for media inquiries and interviews.

Assists in the approval of exterior advertising for CTtransit Advertising vendor to ensure it complies with the contract and community standards.

Coordinates the planning and execution of employee, public relations, and customer special events.

Develops, creates, and advises on communication methods and materials for employees. This includes reviewing company newsletters, assists in the development and review of memos (department specific and companywide), proposing new communication methods, formatting company handbooks, etc.

Represents CTTRANSIT at public hearings and public informational meetings, as well as in meetings with other state transit providers, regional planning agencies, and municipalities.

Participates as a member of the Executive Staff in policy planning, meetings and public functions.

Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.

Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency. Provides training for Agency personnel as required. Actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, etc.

Has thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures.
