Job Description:
The Strategy team at Harbor Freight is responsible for providing strategic support and thought leadership to the CEO, President and other Executive Leadership Team members. The team's primary focus is working with cross-functional leaders to drive new initiatives, improve existing operations and tackle ad hoc, high priority projects across nearly all areas of the business.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an internal consultant for key business leaders in vetting strategic ideas by providing analytical, problem solving and strategic frameworks
  • Managing corporate-level initiatives across a wide range of areas, including projects such as: (i) deep dives into specific business areas, (ii) international expansion and (iii) external vendor assessment and management Identify whitespace growth opportunities and develop plans for executive initiatives, including new business opportunities, new consumer segments and new markets
  • Anticipate future business changes and challenges and proactively develop and implement new or revised plans
  • Execute ad hoc projects and/or discrete analyses; present findings and recommendations to senior management as requested
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices, assessing and communicating their potential impact on the business
  • Regular attendance is an essential requirement of the position

  • Staff supervision and development - Limited and not initially
  • Decision making - Provide consultation and strategic advisory to business leaders
  • Travel - Limited, less than 10%
  • Location - Calabasas HQ

    Requirements:
    Education (Required)

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from a top tier university.
  • An MBA or equivalent with a relevant level of professional experience.

    Skills (Required)

  • Strong understanding of strategic frameworks, problem-solving and analytical skills, including advanced modeling; comfortable working with ambiguity
  • Ability to effectively build relationships with internal partners, peers and leadership
  • Must be able to perform under pressure, short deadlines and in high visibility settings
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to story tell with data sets. Comfortable and adept at making the complex simple.

  • Skills (Preferred / Desired)
  • Self-starter; ability to move projects forward with minimal direction
  • Accustomed to working efficiently; expert in assessing a situation, making a decision, and filtering ambiguity into actionable key next steps and decisions that need to be taken

    Experience (Required)

  • 5 - 7+ years of prior work experience
  • Prior management consulting, investment banking and/or Retail experience preferred

    Physical Requirements
    General office environment requiring ability to:

  • stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • speak and listen to others in person and over the phone
  • use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports
  • lift up to 15 lbs.
