Who are we looking for?

Core Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Science, Civil, Environmental, or Sanitary Engineering preferred.  Equivalent experience in related fields with strong understanding of local governments and contracting of local services will also work. Masters or MBA is a plus

  • 10+ years combined experience as Project Manager/ Operations Manager/Director in a Wastewater Utility, Consulting Engineering, Construction Management, Program Management, or Facilities Management organization

  • Valid driver's license in state of residence

    Other Useful Skills & Experience:

  • Good working knowledge of municipal water and/or wastewater industry issues including regulatory, financing and inter-local government management agreements.

  • Understanding of environmental and safety compliance regulations

  • Great interpersonal skills to build good relationships with elected officials, regulators, and media

  • Formal training in Management Control & Reporting Systems (MCRS)

  • Experience leading a unionized workforce is a plus

    What will you be doing?


    As a Director of Operations for SUEZ you'll play a pivotal role leading operations for one of the largest wastewater contracts in the country. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a high-visibility role that has a defined growth path to a VP level position with one of the top names in the environmental services space.  You'll be leading an experienced management team of 3 and a total team of about 100, covering three core areas - Engineering, Collection System, and Contract Compliance.  

    There's a ton of upside to this role and it would be a great step up for someone who's an Area Manager, Sr Operations Manager or experienced Project Manager. To be well positioned to succeed you'll need few things including great leadership skills, a thoughtful approach to problem solving and a diplomatic approach with customers. It's also important to recognize that you'll need to treat this like it's your business which means having good financial literacy and solid business acumen. Your interpersonal skills will important for managing up within SUEZ and with customers, plus your thoughtful approach will play well with union employees.     Other Key Responsibilities:

    This wastewater system serves a population of over 1 million people and consists of two large Wastewater Plants, Cedar Creek WWTP (capacity 70 MGD) and Bay Park WWTP (capacity 72 MGD), plus a smaller plant at Glen Cove (capacity 5.5 MGD). The sewer system is a separate system consisting of 3,000 miles of sewers and 57 pumping stations.

    It's a big system and you'll be responsible for delivery high-quality services to the community, under a long-term service contract between SUEZ and Nassau County.  To get the job done, you'll work closely with the team providing guidance, assistance and direction to the following departments:

  • Treatment Plant Operations - responsible for daily operations of three (3) -advanced wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Collections- responsible for daily maintenance, cleaning and service of the wastewater collection network.

  • Engineering- responsible for quality control, plant engineering and construction related activities.

  • Maintenance - responsible for all maintenance associated with the 3 wastewater treatment facilities and 57 pumping stations located throughout the collection network. 

  • Administration - responsible for contract compliance and support functions.
